How to Add Captions to LinkedIn Videos in 2024 - 3 Quick Steps

As of 2022, LinkedIn is the top professional platform with over 875 million members from 200 countries and regions worldwide. Companies and people use LinkedIn as a professional networking platform.

Much like other social media platforms, LinkedIn has also seen a fair share of an increase in video content in recent years. 86% of businesses use videos as a marketing tool on LinkedIn.

However, with 85% of people watching social media videos without audio, there seems to be an impasse.

So how do people understand video content without sound?

Captions and Subtitles!

Why are captions and subtitles important?

"69% of people view videos without sound in public places, and 25% watch without sound in private places."

Just imagine the number of people who are deaf and hard of hearing. Not to mention the existing language barrier among the masses.

It makes you think about how limited video content is with just audio.

Captions and subtitles make your content accessible to people with audio restrictions. With captions and subtitles, viewers can choose to read the captions while on mute.

How to add captions and subtitles in LinkedIn

There are two ways you can add subtitles on LinkedIn.

1. Creating the SRT file

You can create an SRT file which you upload along with your video on LinkedIn.

If you decide to create an SRT file, your viewers can toggle the subtitles on or off. These subtitles, also called closed captions (CC), are not a part of the video itself.

2. Videos with burned-in subtitles:

You can embed subtitles to your video, and upload the video on LinkedIn.

Your viewers cannot toggle the Burned in subtitles (SUB) on or off. Viewers have no control over subtitles and cannot choose to turn them off.

Now that you know the difference between captions and subtitles, let’s look at how you can add them to your LinkedIn videos.

Creating videos with captions/subtitles

Step 1: Upload your video

Sign up with Reduct.Video if you have not already, and start editing your subtitles. Since Reduct runs on your browser, you do not need to download software.

Start by uploading your video. You can choose to upload a video from your computer or paste a public web link of your video.

Step 2: Edit the transcript

After you upload your video, Reduct will automatically transcribe the video, within minutes.

AI-generated transcripts may not be 100% accurate. So you might need to correct some errors manually.

You can go through the transcript and edit it wherever necessary. Doing so will also correct the subtitles that you export later.

Make edits to the transcript however you see fit and your job is practically done!

If you don’t have time to edit the subtitles manually, you can easily upgrade to premium human transcription with 99% accuracy.

Bonus Tip 💡

You can use the arrow keys from your keyboard to navigate through the text. Double-click on any text you want to change, type down the correct version and save those changes.

Step 3: Export your subtitles

Once you are done with editing, you can export your transcripts. Press the Download icon on the top-right corner of your screen.

You can choose to download the subtitles in the SRT format or download your video with burned-in subtitles.

For downloading an SRT file, choose the Subtitles (srt) format in downloads.

For burned-in subtitles, choose the Video (mp4) option. It will allow you to download your video with the subtitles burned in.

That’s it! Your video subtitles are ready. Now let’s see how you can post them on your LinkedIn.
